Business School named best among HBCUs

Virginia State University’s Reginald F. Lewis School of Business (RFLSB) has received yet another distinction. The School has been named the “Best Business Program at an HBCU” by The Center for HBCU Media Advocacy. The Center annually recognizes a program which has demonstrated a commitment to innovation and community contributions in research academic exposition and professional development.

RFLSB is ranked among the top five percent of the nation’s business schools through its accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Starting with a strategic curriculum redesign focusing on technology, the School launched a revolution of excellence in 2009. The RFLSB made history in 2010 by becoming the first school in the country to deliver its core curriculum in a predominantly digital format. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell awarded the RFLSB the 2011 Governor’s Award for Technology in Innovation in Higher Education.

RFLSB was one of four finalists for the award from a pool of 108 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The other finalists were Fayetteville State University, Florida A&M and Howard University. The nominations were made by a panel of 880 HBCU students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters. Finalists were selected and ranked by a panel of HBCU presidents and administrators.

VSU President Dr. Keith T. Miller called the award “a wonderful accomplishment.”

Dr. Mirta Martin, Dean of the RFLSB said, “Our new curriculum/program is only two years old. I believe this award speaks volumes of the dedication of the RFLSB faculty and staff to achieve excellence.”
