BACKGROUND

East Hampton is regarded as the wealthiest  and most exclusive neighborhood near New York City, where notable celebrities and millionaires own their second or third homes in the area. Summer charity and gala events are the hub of the social scene each summer. The Reginald F. Lewis Third Annual Luncheon will start the Hamptons summer season with its event on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the RFL oceanside estate. The average attendee at this prestigious event is affluent – in the top 2% of the country’s income bracket – and between 40 and 65 years old. They are well-travelled, well educated, and upscale, and spend more than average on entertainment, fine dining and luxury brands. Other Hampton residents include  Sean Combs, Martha Stewart, Alec Baldwin, Russell Simons, and many others, and many have, or are expected to attend the Gala.

Beginning in 2008, the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation has granted an award to an African American entrepreneur who, like Mr. Lewis, has broken barriers to become internationally successful before reaching 50 years of age, and, also like Mr. Lewis, is an inspiration to contemporary entrepreneurs. The first honoree was Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, and in 2009 R. Donahue Peebles received the great honor. This year, L. Londell McMillan, Head of Entertainment, Media and Sports and Partner at the international law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf, will be honored with the Reginald F. Lewis Award on June 26, 2010.

Following the luncheon gala is Beach Glamour, an ocean side benefit given by and for young professionals in their 20s and 30s who will also, for the first time, honor the legacy and contributions of Reginald F. Lewis. Beginning at 5 p.m. Tina Wells, the 30-year old founder of Buzz Marketing Group, a $5M business that she started when she was 16 years old, will receive the first RFL Young Entrepreneurial Award. The award is given to successful  entrepreneurs under 40 who reflect the values and virtues, legacy and philanthropy of Reginald F. Lewis.
